Why ACCA Matters in Sri Lanka

ACCA is awarded by a UK professional body and carries weight far beyond Sri Lanka. The Big Four audit firms, multinational shared-service centres in Colombo and Malabe, and finance teams across the apparel, banking and BPO sectors all actively recruit ACCA students and members.

Crucially, ACCA is portable. A Sri Lankan ACCA member can work in the UAE, the UK, Australia or Singapore without re-qualifying, which is why so many island students choose it as a route to overseas migration and higher earnings in foreign currency.

  • Awarded by a globally recognised UK body
  • Thirteen exams across three structured levels
  • Generous exemptions for AAT and degree holders
  • A direct route to overseas finance careers

The ACCA Exam Structure

Thirteen exams are grouped into three levels, taking you from fundamentals to strategic expertise.

Business and Technology, Management Accounting and Financial Accounting. The foundation tier that introduces core accounting and business principles.

6 exams

Applied Skills

Corporate and Business Law, Performance Management, Taxation, Financial Reporting, Audit and Assurance, and Financial Management. The working professional tier.

4 exams

Strategic Professional

Two compulsory Essentials papers plus two Options papers chosen from advanced taxation, audit, financial management and performance management. The final tier for senior roles.

ACCA Fees in Sri Lanka

ACCA fees combine GBP-denominated body charges with local tuition, so the rupee total moves with the exchange rate.

Registration & Annual Subscription

Paid to ACCA UK in GBP, the initial registration plus the annual subscription convert to roughly LKR 30,000 to 60,000 depending on the prevailing exchange rate.

Exam & Tuition Fees

Each exam carries a GBP entry fee, and local tuition per paper at Sri Lankan institutes ranges from LKR 20,000 to 45,000. With thirteen papers, tuition is the largest single cost.

Estimated Total Cost

Across the full journey, most Sri Lankan students spend approximately LKR 600,000 to 1,200,000 including registration, exams and tuition. See our ACCA course fees in Sri Lanka breakdown for current figures.

Duration

Most students complete ACCA in 3 to 4 years. Exams are held four times a year, so disciplined candidates with exemptions can finish faster while working.

Eligibility

You can register after G.C.E. A/Levels. AAT passed finalists and relevant degree holders receive exemptions from several Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills papers, shortening the journey.

Global Recognition

Recognised in over 180 countries with strong mutual recognition agreements, ACCA lets Sri Lankan members move into the UK, UAE, Australia and beyond without re-sitting exams.
