Frequently Asked Questions
How can I apply for merit scholarships?
Merit scholarships are awarded based on A/L results, leadership, community service, and specific achievements. Scholarships are automatically considered during the application process - no separate application needed. We offer full scholarships (100% tuition), partial scholarships (50-75%), and special scholarships for specific groups (women in STEM, healthcare workers, etc.). Apply early as scholarships are competitive.
What support does Ceylon Open Campus provide for research?
We provide comprehensive research support including faculty mentorship, access to research databases and journals, research methodology training, funding for research projects (up to LKR 100,000), conference presentation support, and assistance with journal publication. Many final-year projects result in conference presentations or journal publications. We actively encourage student research across all programs.
How can I participate in industry competitions and hackathons?
Ceylon Open Campus actively promotes student participation in industry competitions, hackathons, and olympiads. We share competition announcements, provide training and mentorship for participants, sponsor registration fees for major competitions, and organize internal competitions as preparation. Our Innovation Hub helps students form teams and develop competitive projects. Students have won national-level competitions in cybersecurity, software development, business planning, and construction innovation.
What is the Dean's List and how do I qualify?
The Dean's List recognizes students who achieve outstanding academic performance each semester. To qualify, students must achieve a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher (out of 4.0) while taking a full course load. Dean's List recognition appears on transcripts and is highly valued by employers. In 2024, 156 students made the Dean's List across all programs, demonstrating their academic excellence and commitment to learning.
How are top performers recognized and rewarded?
Top performers receive multiple forms of recognition: University Gold Medals for highest GPA in each program, certificates of academic excellence, feature in student achievement publications, priority for industry internships and placements, recommendation letters from faculty, invitations to exclusive networking events with industry leaders, and opportunities to represent Ceylon Open Campus at conferences. Many top performers also receive job offers from leading companies before graduation based on their academic excellence.
Can working professionals achieve academic excellence?
Absolutely! Many of our top performers are working professionals studying part-time. Academic excellence is about dedication, time management, and effective study strategies, not just being a full-time student. We provide flexible schedules, recorded lectures, and weekend classes specifically to support working professionals. Several Dean's List recipients and scholarship winners are part-time students who successfully balance work, study, and family commitments. Your work experience can actually enhance your academic performance by providing practical context for theoretical concepts.
