When can I join the alumni network?
You automatically become eligible to join the alumni network upon graduation and receiving your degree certificate. We encourage all graduates to register on the alumni portal within 30 days of graduation to start accessing benefits immediately. Final-year students can also attend some alumni events as "soon-to-be-alumni."
Is there a fee to join the alumni network?
No, alumni network membership is completely free for all Ceylon Open Campus graduates. It's a lifelong benefit included with your degree. You have access to all alumni services, events, job board, and mentorship programs at no cost. Some special events (like the annual gala dinner) may have a nominal ticket fee to cover venue and catering costs.
How does the alumni job board work?
The alumni job board features exclusive job postings shared by employers specifically for Ceylon Open Campus alumni. Many are senior positions not advertised publicly. Alumni working at companies also share internal job openings directly to the network. You can access the job board through the alumni portal, set up job alerts for your field, and apply directly or request referrals from alumni at those companies. New jobs are posted weekly.
How do I find a mentor through the mentorship program?
Register on the alumni portal and complete your profile including your career goals and areas where you want guidance. Our Alumni Relations team will match you with a senior alumni mentor in your industry who has volunteered to mentor. Mentorship is typically 6 months with monthly 1-on-1 sessions. Mentors provide career advice, industry insights, networking introductions, and professional development guidance. The program has facilitated over 200 successful mentorship relationships.
Can I attend alumni events if I live outside Colombo?
Yes! We host regional alumni chapters in Kandy, Galle, and Jaffna with local meetups. For major events in Colombo (like the annual gala), we provide early registration so you can plan travel. We also host virtual networking sessions and webinars that alumni anywhere can join. International alumni connect through the LinkedIn group and participate in virtual events. We're expanding regional events based on where our alumni are located.
Can I refer qualified candidates to my company through the network?
Absolutely! Many alumni actively recruit fellow alumni to their companies. You can post job openings on the alumni job board, request the Alumni Relations office to share opportunities with relevant graduates, or directly connect with recent graduates in your field through the alumni directory. Companies like 99X, Virtusa, Asiri, and MAGA actively recruit through our alumni network. Alumni referrals have a higher success rate as companies trust the quality of Ceylon Open Campus graduates.
